Martha (Physical Feeding) vs Mary (Spiritual Feeding)

Martha (Physical Feeding) vs Mary (Spiritual Feeding)

In Luke 10:38 KJV, we read about Jesus visiting Martha and Mary’s house. In Luke 10:39 KJV, Martha is preoccupied with serving Jesus and her sister Mary is sitting at Jesus’ feet hearing his words. In Luke 10:40 KJV, Martha is upset that Mary is not helping her with serving and asks Jesus to tell her to come and help her. In Luke 10:41-42 KJV
Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Some will wonder why Jesus will rebuke Martha and not Mary. With the help of the Holy Spirit, you will realize that at that point, Mary was getting spiritually fed (spiritual feeding) and Martha was worried about physical feeding (flesh).

Don’t get me wrong, feeding the flesh is not wrong, but at that point in time, getting your spirit fed is more important, it is not every day Jesus comes to your house to fellowship and teach you, it is like a once in a lifetime opportunity and Mary knew this and was taking full advantage of that.

Martha could always cook later and Mary might even join in preparation but Martha was missing the moment, staying at the feet of Jesus was more important at that moment and time.

May God help us not to be preoccupied with activities and doing things and lose out on a genuine relationship with God.
